Match Reports 2009-10 Season
Saturday 23rd January 2010 Roundwood C (46) vs Chequers E (20) At the start of the match we would get a goal and then Chequers would, which meant we were equal, however half way through the first quarter Roundwood took the lead 10 – 5 the final outcome of the first quarter was 10 – 7. We then made some changes to our team which included bringing on Lucy Sparks on as GD. After this point we took a strong lead, with Chequers only scoring 2 or 3 goals in the second quarter and Roundwood scoring 14, everyone played really well, with Lucy and Taylor making some really good interceptions. Charlotte and Hayley worked very well around the circle together and kept the shots going in. In the third quarter we had Ellie, Taylor and Robyn come off and Bridget, Alice and I came on. Lucy and Alice played incredibly well together and helped to avoid many goals from Chequers going in by making some amazing interceptions and catching rebounds. Roundwood were talking to each other a lot more especially during the rests between quarters everyone was contributing on how to improve our game play. No changes were made for the final quarter, at this point Chequers were getting quite frustrated that they weren’t winning and were desperately trying to regain possession. Every time that Chequers scored there were big cheers from the sideline, the majority of players on the court from Roundwood were all cheering every time we got a goal too. Bridget played excellently as C. The final score came to 46 – 20, which was really good. This definitely does show how much as a team we have come on since the beginning of the season, hopefully we will go on to win the league.

Report from Elizabeth Andrews Saturday 5th December 2009 Roundwood B (29) v Warren Z (38) The game began with Warren making lots of interceptions, and scoring many goals from these. Half way through the first quarter, however, Roundwood settled and began to play their own game, soon picking up goals of their own. However, it was too late to win the first quarter. By the end of the first 15 minutes, Warren were winning 12-5. The second quarter saw a well-paced, fighting spirit from Roundwood, making more space for themselves, and scoring a few more goals. They began to pull back, not giving Warren much chance to score. By half-time, the score was 16-19 the Warren. Nearly even, Roundwood were determined to fight back. However, Warren put up more of a fight, once again breaking away. The final quarter saw both teams trying to dig deep, and find the energy to win the game. Both teams were really tired from the tough game. Roundwood unfortunately could not keep up with the pace of Warren, therefore losing the game Report from Elizabeth Andrews Saturday 27th November 2009 Roundwood B (33) v Wandsworth (33) After being beaten by Wandsworth before, Roundwood were determined to win this match. They began the game full of energy, trying out their new tactics, taking the first few goals. However, Wandsworth didn’t give up that easily and pulled back twice as quickly. This took Roundwood by surprise a little, ending the first quarter 8-4 down. However, with a few transfers during the break, and a serious team talk, Roundwood were back on form in the second quarter, pacing themselves better this time. With a few interceptions, and some excellent circle rotation and shooting, they brought the score back up to 15-15 at half time. Once again, a couple of fresh players were transferred on, giving Roundwood the energy they needed. However, Wandsworth were also refreshed after the break, and put up a ferocious fight. With the help of a couple of interceptions, and infringements, Wandsworth were one goal up at the end of the third quarter. With the end in sight, and everything to play for, Roundwood went all-out in the fourth and final quarter. With Wandsworth matching each of Roundwood’s goals, the pressure was on. However, one crucial interception from Roundwood gave them the goal they needed to break even with Wandsworth. The scores in the final minutes were neck and neck, with each team quickly scoring from their centre pass. A tough last few minutes of the game saw every player find an extra burst of energy, putting all their effort in. The last few minutes saw some fantastic play, as both teams were desperate to win. As the final whistle blew, the score ended at a fair 33-33. After the fantastic play throughout the match, and good sportsmanship between the teams, this was a fair way to end the game. Well done to both teams for such a good match!
